Entrusted with Secrets: When God Shares His Heart

Quote: When God imparts, it often comes through as both responsibility and insight. - Lesson About John the Beloved: Entrusted with Secrets-When God Shares His Heart

Let’s get honest—when you get close to someone, trust grows. John’s closeness with Jesus? Total game changer. He was entrusted with Mary’s care, surprising visions, and the mysteries of Revelation. Want to know God’s secrets? Stay near.

God shares His heart with those who lean in. John is living proof. 🔑

Scripture Anchor

In John 15:15, Jesus says, “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

What I’ve Always Wanted

I’ve always wanted to be God’s friend—like, really close. Here’s what I’m learning: friendship with God is all about deep, intentional intimacy, just like John. Forget the world’s definition; intimacy here means real closeness, cozy friendship vibes, and knowing Jesus on a heart-to-heart level. That truth? It’s a total blessing. This kind of connection takes my faith to a new level. The best part? You can go from stranger to friend with Jesus—no exclusive club, just an open invitation. I’m learning to slow down, hit pause on the chaos, and make space for real connection. How? Through prayer, honest devotion, fasting, and living out what I believe—one step at a time.

In this relationship, God has shown me things about me, situations, and people that I could not have known any other way, as my responsibilities in life have increased. But first, I had to step out of the business, quiet my thoughts, remove distractions if possible, be still, and make room for God to speak.

Story time—there was this huge project at work. I kept putting it off for months because, honestly, I didn’t know where to start. Then one morning, right after finishing my devotion, I felt God just drop the solution in my lap—three simple steps. Turns out, those steps used system features I never thought would work. It made the project so much easier for my team, saved us time and stress, and the client was thrilled. All because I paused long enough to listen.

Here’s what I know: When you get close to God, He’ll show you what matters and reveal things you never saw coming.

God Will Show Us Responsibility and Revelation

Mary Entrusted to John– John 19:26–27

When John went all-in on closeness to Jesus, Jesus entrusted him with what He valued most. That’s what happens when our purpose shifts—we start caring about what God cares about. That’s the kind of trust I want!

At the cross, Jesus had siblings—yet He picked John to care for His mom. That’s big. You don’t leave your mama with just anyone!

While John stayed near Jesus, Jesus drew close to John. Entrusted means to commit or assign to; to believe in and again to draw near.

Entrust means to draw in, not pull away. Watching Jesus trust John with Mary? That’s next-level closeness in action.

As we draw closer to Jesus, he then draws near to us. This closeness creates an atmosphere in which God shows us: 1. What he cares about, and 2. That he is stewarding the care of someone or something to us.

God’s Got You – and He’s Given You Plenty

What has God entrusted you with? A ministry, a business, a family, a career? Think about and write it in your Journal.  Now, can you be committed and faithful to what Jesus has placed in YOUR care?

Revelation on Patmos – Revelation 1:9–10
Long-term consistency is where God begins to share His secrets. That’s what happened with John—his devotion unlocked access to things others never saw.

Even when John was in trouble, persecuted and banished to the island of Patmos, we see the disciple that Jesus loved, the one who cultivated a relationship, is now entrusted with MORE God secrets.

When John got to the island of Patmos, what a time he had with God. This is where he received mysteries that form his writing for the Book of Revelation. In Revelation 1:9, he receives a vision of things that will be unveiled surrounding the return of Christ. And, in Revelation 1:10, John said, “On the Lord’s day the Spirit took control of me, and behind me I heard…”

WOW, what are you hearing from God? During difficult times, God will show you what to do and how to do it. He can open lasting truths to you, just like he did to John. These revelations come from the eternal to inform current times.

When life gets wild, God shows up with clarity. He’ll give you the wisdom and strategy you need—right on time.

Secrets of the Lord– Psalm 25:14

John’s life after meeting Jesus was filled with wonderful experiences and truths, and he never looked back. These truths are still helping Christians today. John became a friend of Jesus.

What a privilege and honor to become a friend of Jesus. Reflect on this scripture, Psalm 25:14 – The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.

Today, Jesus wants to be friends with all of us and in John 15:15, Jesus invites us by saying: “ 15No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you” (ESV). Here’s the first step to becoming friends with Jesus: pray this prayer.

Call to Him

Let’s pray together: “Jesus, I want to be close. Entrust me with Your heart as I lean in.”

Mic Drop

God shares His secrets with those who stay close. Lean in, my friend—He’ll trust you with things that matter and reveal truths that change your life.
