A New Heart for Love — When God Plants the Seed
Here’s a challenge for you. True love doesn’t start with butterflies — it starts with a transplant. Before we can love God, love people, or even love ourselves well, He does something miraculous inside of us. Through Jesus, our heart of stone is removed and He gives us a heart that can feel again, respond again, and hope again. God literally gives us a new heart for love. God’s love story with you begins with a seed — His Word planted deep within a renewed heart.
God’s love changes us from the inside out—He gives us a new heart to love deeply and sincerely.

Ezekiel 36:26 says, “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.” God doesn’t patch up the old heart; He replaces it entirely. He softens what has grown rigid. He restores what has grown weary. He prepares the soil of your soul for something new to grow. This sets the stage for understanding the essential role of His Word in this process.
The Seed: God’s Word as the First Act of Love
Jesus’ parable in Matthew 13 reminds us that the seed — the Word of God — is perfect. The issue is never the seed. The issue is the soil. God’s Word carries life, power, and divine potential, but it must land in a heart that is open, tender, and ready.
Some hearts are rocky. Others are shallow. Some are crowded. But God is always at work preparing us for His Word. He tills the soil. God breaks up the hardness. He removes the stones. He makes room for truth to take root.
This is love — not that we loved God, but that He loved us first. He initiates. He plants. He pursues.
Understanding this prepares us to examine how our hearts receive His word.
Rocky Soil vs. Ready Soil
Sometimes our ‘soil’ is more like concrete after a tough season. Jesus described people who receive the Word with excitement but fall away when life gets hard. Their soil is thin. The roots are shallow. Their faith is emotional, not anchored.
Jesus describes the good soil—the heart that receives, protects, nourishes the Word, and allows it to grow. This heart produces fruit and matures. With this in mind, we can reflect on our own hearts.
Valentine’s Day is a perfect moment to ask: What kind of soil is my heart offering God and others? This question helps us appreciate how love grows where God’s Word is rooted inside us.
Love isn’t created — it’s nurtured.
Love Grows Where the Word Lives
When God plants His Word in us, it produces patience, kindness, forgiveness, gentleness, and spiritual fruit. Love is not manufactured — it is cultivated. It grows from the inside out. WOW!
It is okay to admit that you’ve been feeling numb, guarded, or disconnected. God is inviting you to let His Word soften you again. Let Him plant something new.
Love flourishes where the Word is present, and God is planting something beautiful in you this season.
